About the Filmmaker

Averi Israel is an actress and writer/director from the eight cities that raised her. She moved to NYC to pursue a Film Studies degree from Columbia University, where she graduated as the recipient of the Louis Sudler Prize in the Arts. Shortly after, she moved to South Korea where she was a set designer for Seoul Shakespeare Company. In NYC, she has trained as an actor at Circle in the Square, the UCB Theatre, as well as with the Broadway Advocacy Coalition, and performed at The Tank, The New Ohio, and Columbia University. As a writer, her pieces for stage and film consist primarily of historical fiction works and those that incorporate elements of Afrofuturism, seeking to root our contemporary moment in both its foundational past and visionary future.
